If you like fly-fishing, the many sycamore
shaded pools of fast-flowing water behind the island are a perfect
place to test your angling skills.
Cast
fishing for large and small-mouth bass, walleye, brim, and crappie
is a good thing to do on a lazy afternoon. The fishing is excellent
on the Eleven Point River.
The river is the jewel of this crown. It
provides an absolutely beautiful ambiance for swimming, fishing,
canoeing*, or picnicking. Summer brings on a thick jungle foliage
that borders the twisting shoreline, abundant with mammoth
grapevines that lace the huge old trees . There are cleared areas
with chairs along the river’s edge that are great for these
activities. There is a swimming hole that would make Norman Rockwell
jealous. Back at the cottages a small private river-park has been
built for our guests' pleasure just below each cottage's back
porch area. A canoe and
kayak launching ramp has been built here, with a large picnic area
and table for your convenience. This is a private little park for
Shady River only. A short walk up the winding trail leads you back
to the cottage, or take the electric kart, it’s very quiet, and yours
to use to get around to all the wonderful nature-trails and river
spots on the Shady River Farm.
Don’t forget an Arkansas fishing license. It’s
cheap and available at Walmart and most hardware and bait stores.
*Shady
River provides a canoe, kayaks, and tubes,
along with the
necessary personal flotation and safety devices. Due to
insurance regulations, all equipment, including the electric
kart, is for use by Shady River registered guests only.
